Branch Secretary – Neroli Ellis
Neroli is the elected Secretary of the Tasmanian Branch of the Australian Nursing Federation, a position she has held for eight years.
Upon completion of General Nurse training at the Royal Hobart Hospital in 1982, Neroli has worked in a variety of health care settings including clinical, management and education positions. She has completed a Graduate Diploma in Business Management, Associate Diploma in Agricultural Business and a Bachelor of Nursing. She is currently studying for a Masters in Business.
Neroli is a Trustee for the Retirement Benefits Fund Board (RBF) and is a member of the RBF Investment Committee, a Graduate and Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. She is a member of numerous community committees and a voluntary Director of Mystate Ltd Community Foundation.
Industrial Consultant – Caroline Saint
Caroline graduated, in NSW, as a Registered Nurse in 1982 and has worked in a variety of settings - mainly intensive care. She holds qualifications in ICU and Cardiology Nursing. Caroline has worked with the Australian Nursing Federation (Tas) since 2002. She is particularly interested in professional issues facing nurses.
Professional/Education Officer – Steven Cooper
Steven has worked in multiple health professional positions after initially completing his training at Royal Hobart Hospital, heading interstate and overseas. He has predominantly worked in rural and remote settings from small outback hospitals as well as health centres and out of the back of a Toyota Troop carrier, tents and sea containers in providing healthcare.
Highlights include setting up remote health centres in the desert of central Western Australia and being partly responsible as the Professional Practice Nurse for standardisation of policy, procedure and protocols of health centres in the Northern Territory (NT). Steven has a passion for change management, policy and evidence based research to reflect current practices and is looking forward to his role as Professional Officer and being back in his home state.
Lead Organiser – Agnes Stanislaus-Large
Agnes has 28 years nursing experience in the clinical setting and has spent the last 8 years working at the ANF. Her involvement in the ANF spans many years as an active member, Representative, Branch Councillor and Vice-President of ANF (Tas Branch). Agnes is also a facilitator and ex-officio member of various committees. In the role of Lead Organiser Agnes provides support and guidance to the Organisers in the Branch to plan campaigns and strategies to improve nurses’ careers. During periods of absence of the Branch Secretary, she fulfils the role as Acting Secretary.
Agnes has been fortunate to be working on behalf of the ANF in East Timor and Aceh. She has also represented the Australian Peoples Health and Education Development Abroad (APHEDA) which is the humanitarian arm of the Australian Congress of Trade Unions (ACTU) in these countries, and has worked with the International Council of Nurses (ICN) for the admission of East Timor as a full member.
Northern Organiser – Sonia Mackenzie
Sonia graduated from the University of Tasmania, School of Nursing, and has had some experience as a carer and as an RN in Aged Care, before she commenced the Graduate Program at the LGH. Sonia worked both in theatre and on a medical ward during the program, however was drawn back to theatre where she stayed for 15 years and completed a Post Graduate Peri-operative Nursing Certificate. Sonia was also an ANF Rep in theatre and was involved in Consultative Committees.
Northern Organiser - Louise Phillips
Louise spent 15 years working in the ACT as a Community Nurse and at the ACT Hospice. She returned to Tasmania in 2001, working for Palliative Care Service (North) for over six years as CNC Liaison and two and a half years as Acting Unit Manager for Kings Meadows Community Nursing. For the last 14 months Louise has worked at Glenara Lakes Aged Care Facility as the CCC and more recently as the Acting Facility Manager.
Northern Organiser – Stuart Foote
Stuart has practised as a Registered Nurse full time since graduation in 1982 and has worked for ANF since 2002. He is committed to fairness, equity and the safety of his nursing colleagues. Stuart has worked for ANF as a Northern Organiser and currently manages the ANF Information Line.
North West Organiser – Sue Robertson
Sue comes to ANF with 18 years experience in the health sector, with her most recent position being a Nurse Unit Manager of a satellite renal unit. As well as her nursing qualifications, Sue also holds an Advanced Diploma of Clinical Nursing from the University of Melbourne and a Diploma of Business in Frontline Management from TAFE Tasmania. Sue is inspired by the positive attitude and dynamic approach that the Nursing Team in Tasmania has, and is looking forward to building positive relationships with ANF Members and Employers.
Southern Organiser – Sue Darcey
Sue has worked in nursing for over 30 years and has always been a member of the ANF. She became actively involved with the organisation as a workplace representative and Branch Councillor in 1990 while working in Victoria. In 1997 she joined the Victorian Branch staff. In 2004 Sue returned home to Hobart and has enjoyed her ongoing role with the Tasmanian Branch doing what she loves; promoting all aspects of nursing and supporting the rights of members.
Southern Organiser – Ken Harriss
Ken has worked as a Registered Nurse for over 20 years and holds post graduate tertiary qualifications in Critical Care and Aged Care. Ken has been heavily involved with the national ANF “Because We Care” campaign. Ken is passionate about primary healthcare and has experience in both public and private sector rural facilities over the past 10 years throughout Tasmania.
Southern Organiser – Erin Smallbon
Erin has held a position on the Southern Organising team at the ANF for 6 months as well as having seven years experience in nursing. Erin has worked primarily in the Peri-operative area as a Theatre Nurse. She has worked in several hospitals in Tasmania, both in the private and public sector, and has spent time working as a Theatre Nurse overseas. Erin also held a position on the ANF Branch Council between January and November 2009.
