Christmas Holiday Pay Update
ANF has received confirmation from the DHHS that, as per State legislation, day and shift working nurses rostered to work on Christmas Day will receive double time and a half (250%) for all hours worked. Additionally, public holiday penalties will be paid for the Christmas Day Public Holiday (Monday 26 December) and the Boxing Day Public Holiday (Tuesday 27 December).
Nurses, whose rostered day off falls on a public holiday will be paid a 100% penalty in recognition of the disadvantage of not benefitting from the day off. Alternatively, they may elect to accrue 7.6 hours (pro rata) which will be paid at flat rate.
Casuals will receive the Award rate of 170% on the ‘20% loaded rate’.
ANF attended the Tasmanian Industrial Commission this morning and remains in dispute with the DHHS regarding day working nurses on a rotating/non fixed roster. It was agreed in a joint position, authorised by the ANF and DHHS in April 2011, that these nurses when not rostered on a public holiday would receive 7.6 hours at flat rate OR accrual of hours (pro rata).
An agreement has been made to enter into discussions as to the industrial arrangements which apply to day working nurses on non fixed, rotating rosters and day working nurses on non fixed rosters which extend beyond Monday to Friday day working hours.
ANF will be attending the Commission on 19 January 2012 to provide a report back on these discussions.

Under Tasmanian law, Christmas public holiday arrangements for all employees for 2011/2012 are as follows:

Under the current Public Sector Head of Agreement, Nurses working public holidays will receive double time and half (250%) for all hours worked. Casuals will receive the Award rate of 170% on the “loaded rate”. For those who do not work a public holiday you may elect to receive payment or accrual of leave (pro-rata for part timers).
Despite a joint position signed by ANF/DHHS in April, ANF has now been notified by the DHHS that they will not honour this Agreement. ANF will lodge this dispute in the Tasmanian Industrial Commission. The Joint Factsheet is available here.
Those working in the private sector will need to check their Award or Agreement, as entitlements vary between employers.

Thank you ANF. I am rostered on to work on Christmas day, but not working on the Tuesday, so it is nice to know that I will be rewarded for giving up my time with my family on Christmas Day.
