Letter to the Premier – MD8 Indemnification

Dear Premier

 MD8 Indemnification

Nurses are concerned that the cuts to health services may have adverse outcomes for patients within the system or for persons who are unable to access services.

While you have assured the public of Tasmania that they are not at risk because of the health cuts, your Victorian counterparts argued that bed closures by nurses in that State do pose a risk to the public.

In light of this, nurses seek an assurance that they will be granted full indemnity in the event of an adverse outcome that occurs due to the foreseeable risk.

I note that the most recent application ANF made on behalf of a member seeking indemnification (sent late October 2011) is yet to receive a response.

An early assurance that nurses working within the public service will be eligible for indemnity is sought as a matter of urgency.

A response to this letter is requested by no later than close of business Friday 9 December 2011. Thank you for considering this request.

Yours sincerely

Neroli Ellis

Branch Secretary
